1. Search Database

The HABSOS search function allows you to define a species (currently only Karenia brevis) and a date range (up to one year) to display Cell Count Reports on the map. To further refine a search, select a Predefined Condition from the drop down menu. This will limit the search to specific cell count range. The Exclude "Not Present" Reports checkbox will remove any entries with no detected HAB cells. This will make it easier to identify areas where HABs are present. The bottom of the box will always contain the legend for cell count ranges.

2. Add Layers

Add Layers contains interesting environmental measurements and model data collected from various agencies. Click on the headings of meteorology, oceanography, or foundation layers to view what types of layers are available. To activate a layer, check the box next to the layer, select the appropriate time (if required), and click on the update map button. It may take a few seconds for the layer to load.

3. Legend

The legend tab shows a legend for any of the measurements or models selected from the Add Layers tab. If no layers have been selected, the Legend will be blank.

4. Tools

Tools has a selection of nine different basemaps to choose from. There is also a feature to change the opacity of any open layers on map. This is useful when multiple layers are open. The top layer can be made more translucent to see the other layers underneath it.

5. Time Slider

The time slider allows you to shift through a selected time period of Cell Count Reports. After doing a search for Cell Count Reports, activate the slider by grabbing it with the mouse and sliding to the right, or by clicking the right arrow. Time will progress by moving the slider to the right and go backward by moving the slider to the left. To see the full range of dates initially searched for, press the Reset button.
